Obstetrics Fellowship

Family Medicine Spokane offers two different types of experiences for Family Physicians to update and/or enhance their skill in Obstetrics.

The One Year Family Medicine Spokane Obstetrical Fellowship is designed to train family physicians right out of residency or practicing physicians with limited OB skills.  Emphasis is placed on providing Fellows with a complete background of all Obstetrical skills necessary for practice including the management of high risk and operative obstetrics. The Six Month fellowship is designed to train family physicians whose practice already includes obstetrics, with an emphasis on high risk and operative obstetrics.  Both fellowships are available at Sacred Heart or Deaconess Medical Center.

Successful completion of the fellowship will:

  • Equip the Fellow with the necessary skills to provide Obstetrical services in rural and underserved areas
  • Provide a solid foundation of experience in obstetrics for future teaching in academic settings
  • Maintain Family Medicine skills by participating in direct patient care at Family Medicine Spokane, our sponsoring hospitals and in the Spokane community
  • Provide experience in teaching residents and medical students on OB, Inpatient Service, and ambulatory care setting.
  • Provide selective experience based on individual Fellow preferences.

The Family Medicine Spokane Obstetrical Fellowship enhances our family medicine residents' obstetrical training by fostering and maintaining professional and collegial relationships with the obstetrical community. The Fellows participate in teaching and mentoring residents, medical students and obstetrical staff and provide care for underserved obstetrical patients in our region. The FMS OB Fellowships graduates will develop into an integral part of the primary care of women and the future of obstetrical training in the specialty of Family Medicine.
